FAQ
Questions, answered plainly.
- What grades do you teach?
- Kindergarten through 6th grade. Every session is one-on-one and tailored to your student's level.
- What subjects can my child get help with?
- Math, reading, writing, and science across the K–6 range. We also help with test prep and specific homework projects.
- How do online sessions actually work?
- Sessions happen in Abide Live, our own online classroom, reached by a private one-tap link in your email. Any device with a camera and internet works, laptop, Chromebook, iPad. Lessons run on a shared whiteboard built for K–6 work, and every page your child works on is saved to your parent account.
- What video platform do you use?
- We built our own: Abide Live. One tap on the link in your email signs you in and brings your child straight into the room, no downloads, no meeting IDs, no separate app. You still get a calendar invite when you book, and you can try your camera and mic ahead of time with our one-minute tech check.
- What do I need to provide?
- A device with a camera, a quiet space, and a stable internet connection. Headphones help. Bring whatever the student is working on, textbook, worksheet, or assignment.
- Does a parent need to be present?
- For younger students (K–2) we ask a parent to be nearby to help with the initial connection. Older students can usually run the session on their own.
- How does payment work?
- All payments are handled securely online when you book. Single sessions are paid up front; packages add a session balance to your parent account to book against; the monthly plan is auto-billed and can be canceled anytime from your account page.
- What if I need to reschedule?
- Right from your account page, no email needed. Reschedule up to 24 hours before your session (up to two reschedules per booking). Cancel at least 24 hours out and the session returns to your account as a credit to use another time. Inside 24 hours, the session counts as used.
- What if the first session isn't a good fit?
- Then it's free. Tell us within 24 hours of the session and we'll refund it, or return the credit to your account if you paid with a package. We want trying Abide to feel zero-risk.
- Can we meet Lisa before booking?
- Yes. We offer a free 15-minute meet-the-teacher video call, no account or payment needed. Ask from the contact page and Lisa will send you a private video link.
- Is Lisa background checked?
- Yes. Lisa holds a current Florida Level 2 background check and taught in Florida schools for 22 years. Every session is one-on-one in Abide Live, parents are welcome to sit in anytime, and you get a written recap by email after each session.
- Are sessions recorded?
- Live video is never recorded. With the consent you give at booking, a private audio recording helps create your written session recap, and it's deleted after the notes are made. Parents are welcome to sit in on any session.
- What if Lisa is sick or unavailable?
- Your session is rescheduled or returned to your account as a credit, your choice. Your child is never handed to a different tutor.
- What if my child is nervous about the first session?
- That's completely normal, and Lisa plans for it. The classroom greets your child by name, the controls are four big buttons a kid can't get lost in, and the first minutes are spent drawing together on the whiteboard, not sitting on camera. Most kids relax the moment they earn their first star.
- Can we gift sessions to another family?
- Yes. Ask us for a gift code, and the family redeems it on their account page. The free sessions appear instantly, no card required.
- Where are you based?
- Lisa is based in Florida; sessions are live online so we work with families anywhere in the U.S.
- Is Abide Learning faith-based?
- Faith is the foundation for how the work is done, with care, patience, and respect, not a curriculum overlay. Families of any background are welcome.
